Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa. Mea Maxima Culpa. (My fault. My fault. My own most grievous fault. Hey, I was an altar boy.)
When I made the decision to move the blog to this website, I thought I took the path of lowest risk. I went with an established site host (Blue Host – they were recommended by WordPress, the company who originally hosted the blog), and then I opted for the “Hey, use one of our pre-created themes. All you have to do is some customization.” Sure. Let’s do that. I chose one of their recommended themes. I paid the fees. The next day, I got a message.
“Sorry,” they said essentially, “we can’t make that work.” Their own theme. Their own hosting service. Couldn’t work.
“That theme is no longer supported. It’s almost 4 years old.” I have socks twice that old. The Mac I’m writing this on is eight years old.
I chose a second, recommended, theme. Same story. Not supported. Why, then, do they recommend it? Good question. No real answer.
Deep breath. Okay. What’s a current theme you recommend? One that is both appropriate and supported? They suggested one. We went with it and things were fine until we tried to port the blogs over to the new site. The imbedded photos went all wonky. Using another recommended option, we toiled away at fixing it all. (Here, by “we” I mean, my daughter, who has undertaken this project. Thank you, Shannon!)
Yesterday, we gave up and went to theme #4 that would support photos a bit better. Enter 10 pseudo-posts written in Latin. All spontaneously generated by the nether forces of the interweb.
My apologies. We think we have that fixed.
It’s like when the AI that runs your business gets a virus and goes mad 😗 Seriously, I hope they straighten out their end of it soon. Good luck!
Exactly! I’m hoping we’re beyond it now. Hmmm…I seem to remember thinking the same thing about COVID a couple of times!
I think we’re good now!
That’s how I felt/experienced with..heck, one of the “Ws” when I did a test-run switch!
Aggravating! Yes, I probably should have done a test-run first.
