Shortly after Spark was published, Al Warren invited me to be on his radio program. It was a great experience – he’s very easy to talk to and his co-host that day, David Marino, helped keep things moving.
Now that Embers is out, he invited me back. It was another great experience with a bestselling author (37 true crime books, 8 of which have hit #1). His most recent book is about Charles Manson and his crimes. In 1974, the lead prosecutor on the case, Vincent Bugliosi, published Helter Skelter about the Manson Murders. Warren’s book, Peace, Love, & Murder: The Charles Manson Story, expands on that and also offers an insightful look at the culture that gave rise to Manson and his cult of followers. Well worth a read!
This time around, Michael Hawley was the co-host. He’s a nonfiction author and was recently featured on the Travel Channel’s Legend Hunter (currently on Hulu).
Michael was a Naval Aviator in his previous career, but I did not hold that against him. We did our best to keep the show from devolving into a bunch of flying stories. Instead, we talked science, science funding, and science fiction. We all have big hopes for the commercialization of space travel. They put a very cool promo of it here.
You can listen to the show here.
