It’s Sunday morning, that means that my interview with Sci Fi Saturday Night is now live on their site.
It was a wide-ranging and fun conversation with The Dome and Captain Cam. We talked about music, martial arts, writing, Dreamforge magazine, and, of course, SPARK. I was surprised at how quickly the time passed.
They definitely did their homework and had actually READ THE BOOK! That made for a great interview, at least from my perspective because it allowed us to delve into some of the themes of the book and the books that inspired me along the way: Niven’s Dream Park, Cline’s Ready Player One, and Card’s iconic Ender’s Game.
They had a great appreciation for the tech behind the game and offered the opinion that SPARK, as a theme park, is enticingly close to reality now. Some of the other tech, notably Black Grass, is much further away.
Many thanks to The Dome for dragging himself out of the hospital to be able to record this before I head off to Africa for work.
I will be traveling to both Kenya and Niger. If connections are good, I’ll post from there and include some pictures. Maybe there will be a French translation of SPARK available in one of the Niamey bookstores. I did briefly see a copy of it for sale in Uganda. Hmm…
They had some nice things to say in their intro:
So, what do we know about Pat Daily? He is an enigma on social media, so his website mirrors his facebook which mirrors his twitter account and all of which has very minimal background information about him. Here’s what we do know. He is incredibly well read with the Grandmasters of Science Fiction and has liberally “easter egged” them in his first book, Spark. He has a vast real world knowledge in hard science to back up his whimsical enjoyment of fantasy which intertwine so beautifully in this book. There is a sense of character reality in his writing that makes Spark an intriguing and engaging read that keeps you involved from the very first page. Most importantly, Pat is a great conversationalist as we hope this interview will attest to, so grab your snacks and relax.
Many thanks to The Dome and Captain Cam!
A very Happy Easter to all!
